UNICEF has welcomed the formation and launch of a Child Protection Unit in southern Sudan, within the SPLA, as a milestone for the rights of children.

UN Security Council demands end to rape in the DRC
The UN Security Council has demanded that all steps be taken to prevent a repeat of a recent mass rape in north Kivu in the DRC as council members voiced dissatisfaction at the late response of the UN peacekeepers in the region.
The peacekeepers said they were only informed about it more than a week after it happened even though their base was just 30 km from the scene in the east of the country.
